J/24 Midwinter Traffic Flow/Parking

For a map highlighting the areas mentioned below, please click here.

1. Cars may park inside the gate up to the Marine Railroad, do not park west of the sign "Members Only Parking".

2. Trailers with boats may park on the grass inside the gate perpendicular to the road Sunday thru Tuesday, Trailers without boats in the grass area north of the public boat paved parking area and south of the north dog park fence Tuesday thru Saturday.

3. Mast down area is the north half of the public boat ramp parking lot due to airport height restrictions. Boat wash down may be done at the hose bibs at the public boat ramp. Mast up area is the south half of the public boat parking lot and westward to DIYC property.

4. Traffic flow is clockwise west of the hoist boat parking area to the hoists and then up the runway. Boat bows will be west at the west hoist and south at the east hoist allowing you to back your trailer into position. We reserve the right to ask you to use a dolly if traffic at the hoists is heavy. There will be a qualified member present to operate the hoist.

5. All boats entering DIYC for launching, do not proceed past the gin pole unless your mast is raised and your boat is rigged ready to launch. This includes having the bridle or lifting gear in place ready for the hook. You should be prepared to haul your boat to the hoist with no delay for preparation from the gin pole to the hoist.

6. Stop at the top of the hill until cleared to proceed to the hoist. Only two boats will be allowed in the hoist area at a time. Follow the clockwise pattern. You should be prepared to have your vehicle and trailer driven away as soon as your boat is on the hook. DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND TRAILER STRAIGHT TO THE GATE MONITOR - FAILURE:TO DO SO WILL HOLD UP OTHERS WAITING TO USE THE HOIST.

7. Upon launch, the dockmaster will direct you to a parking berth for the first night only. Rafting equipment-bumper pads are your responsibility. THE FIRST 30 BOATS EACH DAY WILL BE ALLOWED TO PARK AT THE FLOATING DOCKS AND ALL OTHERS WILL RAFT OFF THE END OF BAND C DOCKS. When you return from racing each day, please follow the dockmasters direction to avoid having to move your boat.

8. On the last day of racing obviously everyone wants out of the water at the same time. Only your advance preparation can make this a pleasant and organized experience. The DIYC dockmaster will be present to again direct you to a rafting area. The first boats to arrive will be assigned berths closest to the hoists. All local boats will allow our visitors to haul out first. The crew for the closest boats should be running to fetch the vehicle and trailer and reenter the yard in the order that their boats are to the hoist. The reentry of the vehicle will be controlled according to the position of the boats at the hoist.

9. Don't even think about spraying off your boat in the hoist area. There will no hoses available. There are ample spraying and cleaning opportunities in the mast down staging areas. Spraying at the hoist causes unnecessary delay.

10. Please remember to be prepared for the hook. Delay in launching and retrieving causes inconvenience to those behind you in line. Please understand that with the number of boats using two hoists that your organization, preparation and cooperation really matters.

Vehicle Parking

Visiting skippers and their crew are requested to be respectful of the members-only parking area which extends from the marine railway and gin pole on the entry road to all areas around the club. Guests are requested to park east of the railway and gin pole or outside the yacht club gate.

Boat and Trailer Parking

As boats arrive, they will be placed in dry slips with tie downs on a first-come basis. All other boats on trailers will be parked on the grassy areas alongside the entry road inside the yacht club gate until space is used up. Skippers and crew are responsible for chocking their trailers. We do experience high winds on occasion. When space is no longer available inside the gate, remaining boats and trailers will be parked at the boat launching ramp area located just east of the yacht club entrance.

Once boats are launched, empty trailers will be parked outside the yacht club gate adjacent to the boat ramp and airport located east of the yacht club. This is an unsecured area and all owners are responsible for locking their trailers and any lockers which are on trailers.

Parking Fees for Early Arrivals and Late Departures

Davis Island Yacht Club is somewhat space-constrained and is also a favored site for various other midwinters regattas. The Board of Directors encourages regatta participation but the club property cannot accommodate extended parking of visiting boats at no cost.

1. Parking for visiting boats is free and included in the regatta registration fee for the duration of the regatta. All owners and skippers are alerted that on occasion the Tampa Bay area experiences high winds. Owners and crew are responsible for properly chocking trailers and using tie-downs where available.

2. All boats must provide proof of insurance and a signed waiver prior to or upon arrival at DIYC.

3. Pre & post racing boat storage is available only by making arrangemnts prior to arrival by contacting Jason Chavez at 813-784-6057. The anticipated arrival and departure date is to be identified on the application and the appropriate fee is payable in advance or at registration.
